So You Forgot Your Mammogram. Now What?

You know that feeling when you open the refrigerator and you can’t remember what you’re looking for or why you opened it? Climbing up the stairs to retrieve something from your bedroom only to realize you have NO idea what you climbed up the stairs for? The positive side of that one is that you actually logged an additional stair climb!

For many of you reading this blog, you might be a bit too young for these little “memory mistakes” but the feeling is real! However, for all of us, in some way, I would take a chance to say that there was something about 2020 that you would really like to forget – and that’s OK!

For me, I forgot about MY health and that’s NOT OK!

As it was for so many others, 2020 was, as I like to describe it, a house of mirrors. I was trying to figure out how to keep germs off my floor (amidst dogs, kids, more dogs and more kids), running a business from home, keeping toilet paper hidden and, not to mention, trying to convince my family that my cooking was actually edible! All of this, plus the uncertainty of our world, led to the decline of ME.

I know I’m not the only one, and I certainly SALUTE everyone and their stories. At the end of the day, we are now in 2021 – and actually HALF WAY through the year!

With that said, for me personally, there can be no more excuses…

About a month ago, it occurred to me that I had MISSED 2020. Yep, that’s right, I had missed vital well-checks, dental appointments and, most importantly, MY MAMMO!

How in the heck did that happen? I’m the one who always preaches about an annual mammogram. I’m the one who has watched as my closest friends have fought the fight against breast cancer and WON the battle due to their regime of ROUTINE MAMMOs. Now, I’m the one who missed my annual MAMMO?!

I know there are other women out there who may have forgotten to schedule their mammogram, or who may have been too nervous to physically visit a medical facility to have this important exam. That’s why I’ve partnered with AdventHealth to get my health back on track and to encourage you to do the same.

“Because breast cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer death in women in the U.S., having your annual mammogram could quite literally save your life,” according to Devina McCray, MD, breast cancer surgeon at AdventHealth.

2020 might have taken my sanity in many ways, but how could I have allowed myself to FORGET about something so vitally important that saves lives! Opening the refrigerator without knowing why and climbing a set of stairs to realize I forgot what I was going up to retrieve is one thing. Forgetting something that takes 10 minutes at most and saves lives…well, there is NO EXCUSE!

My APPOINTMENT IS SET at AdventHealth. Join me in this journey.
