As July ends, Halloween begins at Walt Disney World as Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party returns to Magic Kingdom starting Aug. 7 through Oct. 31. The after-hours event, which runs on select nights through Halloween, has become one of Disney World’s most popular seasonal celebrations, bringing families and Disney fans.
Unlike traditional haunted attractions, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party offers a festive, family-friendly atmosphere filled with exclusive entertainment, trick-or-treating, unique character experiences, and Halloween-themed treats. Since it’s a separately ticketed event, guests also experience lower crowd levels than they typically would during regular park hours.
The event takes place after Magic Kingdom closes to day guests, with the party running from 7 p.m. to midnight on select nights. Guests with party tickets can enter the park as early as 4 p.m., giving them extra time to enjoy attractions before the Halloween festivities officially begin.
Main Street, U.S.A. is transformed with Halloween decorations, festive lighting, and music, creating an immersive fall atmosphere from the moment guests enter the park.
What to Expect
One of the biggest highlights of the party is unlimited trick-or-treating. Guests receive a complimentary treat bag upon arrival and can visit candy stations located throughout Magic Kingdom.
Disney also offers allergy-friendly treat options for guests with food allergies or dietary restrictions.
The party features entertainment available only during the event. Including:
- Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade: Disney characters dressed in Halloween costumes, the Headless Horseman riding through the park, spooky floats, dancing gravediggers, and appearances from Disney villains.
- Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular: Nighttime fireworks combine fireworks, projection effects, music, and lasers as Jack Skellington hosts a Halloween adventure featuring Mickey Mouse and several Disney villains.
- Disney Villains and Rare Character Meet-and-Greets: Disney characters will be wearing exclusive Halloween costumes and encounter popular Disney villains.
Additionally, while not every attraction is open during the event, many of the popular rides will remain available, often with significantly shorter wait times than during daytime hours.
Dressing Up is Half the Fun
One of the most unique aspects of Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is that guests of all ages, including adults, are encouraged to wear costumes. Outside of special events like this, adults are generally not permitted to wear full costumes inside Disney parks.
From Disney princesses and Pixar favorites to Marvel superheroes and Star Wars characters, the party is filled with creative costumes that add to the festive atmosphere.
While costumes are encouraged, Disney has a few important rules to help keep the event safe and enjoyable for everyone.
Guests ages 14 and older may not wear masks that fully cover their faces, and costumes should not drag on the ground or include realistic weapons or sharp props. Outfits must remain family-friendly and appropriate for all ages, and adults may not pose as official Disney characters or sign autographs for other guests.
Guests planning to attend should purchase tickets in advance, arrive early to maximize their time in the park, and consider planning their evening around the parade, fireworks and character meet-and-greets, as these experiences tend to draw the largest crowds.
