Orlando Ballet is bringing one of ballet’s most recognizable fairy tales to Central Florida this October with The Sleeping Beauty, accompanied by live music from the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra.

Presented by Krista and Jonathan Ledden, the production takes the stage at Steinmetz Hall at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts Oct. 15–18, 2026. The performances will feature live music from the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Gabriel Gordon, alongside Christopher Stowell’s choreography.

At the center of the ballet is Princess Aurora, whose life is changed by a curse placed upon her as a baby. The story follows her journey from the royal court into an enchanted world, eventually bringing together Aurora, Prince Florimund, and the magical figures who shape their fate.

The familiar fairy tale provides the foundation, but Orlando Ballet’s production brings its own visual and theatrical style to the story. Elaborate costumes, fantastical wings, whimsical characters, and detailed makeup help create the production’s magical setting.

The performance also features dancers from across Orlando Ballet’s organization, with members of the professional company sharing the stage with younger performers from Orlando Ballet School.

Live Music

For Artistic Director Jorden Morris, part of what makes The Sleeping Beauty special is the history behind the work and the opportunity to introduce it to another generation of Orlando audiences.

“The Sleeping Beauty has a remarkable history, beginning as a French fairy tale before becoming the iconic ballet we know today through the music of Tchaikovsky and the choreography of Marius Petipa,” said Morris. “Christopher Stowell’s production allows us to honor that history while bringing the story to life in a way that feels vibrant and personal for today’s audiences. It is an honor to bring this beloved work back to Orlando this season, especially with Tchaikovsky’s score performed live by the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra.”

Having the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra perform Tchaikovsky’s score live adds another dimension to the production, pairing the movement of the dancers with the full sound of a live orchestra.

Families can attend a special Family Friendly Performance on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 2 p.m.

The afternoon performance will include pre-show activities designed with younger audience members in mind, including crafts, story time, an interactive dance class, face painting, and themed photo opportunities. Families will also have the flexibility of relaxed re-entry during the performance.

The family performance offers an approachable way for children to experience a full ballet production while getting a closer look at the story and artistry behind a live performance.

Tickets start at $39 plus fees, with VIP packages available for those looking for premium seating and additional amenities. Groups of 10 or more can also receive exclusive pricing.

For tickets and additional information, visit Orlando Ballet or call (407) 358-6603.
