As Valentine’s Day approaches, couples across the United States are planning romantic getaways that offer quality time, memorable dining, and relaxing experiences. A new study that analyzed millions of TripAdvisor reviews has revealed that Florida earned its place as a Valentine’s Day favorite.
The research, conducted by luxury travel advisors The Resorts Collection, ranked all 50 states based on how frequently the word “romantic” appeared in TripAdvisor comments for various attractions. Results were normalized per 100,000 comments to allow for fair comparisons between states of different sizes.
Florida’s Valentine’s Day Ranking
Florida ranked 25th overall, recording 1,128 romantic mentions per 100,000 comments. While not among the top ten, the Sunshine State placed ahead of neighboring Georgia (26th) and Alabama (42nd), highlighting its strong appeal for couples planning a Valentine’s Day escape.
Restaurants were Florida’s standout category, generating 791 romantic mentions per 100,000 comments, which was by far the state’s highest-scoring area. Landmarks and outdoor attractions also contributed to Florida’s romantic reputation, with 139 mentions for landmarks and 145 for nature and park attractions, while hotels had 53 romantic mentions.
Comparatively, the study found that Rhode Island is America’s most romantic state, ranking first overall with 2,100 romantic mentions, followed by Texas, Washington, New York, and Ohio. These states also showed strong performances in restaurants and outdoor attractions.
At the opposite end of the scale, Montana, Wyoming, and South Dakota ranked as the least romantic states, each recording fewer than 650 romantic mentions per 100,000 comments.
While Florida may not claim the top spot nationally, the study confirms it remains a consistent and attractive Valentine’s Day destination for couples seeking warmth, dining experiences, and outdoor scenery.
