PetSmart Hosts ‘Meet the Reptiles’ For Pet Lovers

Over 1,600 PetSmart locations across the U.S. and Canada hosted the “Meet the Reptiles” event from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The family-friendly event let guests learn and interact with cold-blooded pets such as snakes, geckos, and bearded dragons.

At the Waterford Lakes PetSmart location, a terrarium was displayed with children’s coloring pages of reptiles and a Zoo Med ReptiHabitat Terrarium Kit, supplying pet lovers with everything they need to house their favorite reptile.

The cold-blooded creatures showcased within the rotation were a leopard gecko and a bearded dragon. Pamphlets called “Reptile Care Guides” were also displayed next to PetSmart’s various reptiles, outlining how pet owners should maintain their cold-blooded friends.

Leopard Geckos

Size: Can grow up to 10″ (25 cm)

Lifespan: 15-20 years on average

Originated from the Middle East and parts of South Africa, leopard geckos are small, ground-dwelling lizards recognized by their yellow coloration with black spots, resembling the patterns of a leopard. These reptiles require a stable humidity and a temperature gradient environment for consistent long-term health. As insectivores, leopard geckos also need a varied diet of live insects, including crickets, dubia roaches, mealworms, superworms, and hornworms.

Bearded Dragon

Size: Can grow up to 24″ (61 cm)

Lifespan: Approximately 10+ years

Bearded dragons are lizards native to Australia that get their name from the spiny “beard” on their chin, which they use for communication. The reptiles need a warm, dry environment and a temperature gradient in their habitat to prevent stress, illness, and behavioral issues. Breaded dragons start as omnivores when young, then their diet transitions towards mostly vegetables as they mature. 

PetSmart is offering multiple deals to reward members for reptile care, including earning 7,500 points ($15 back in savings) when they spend $50 or more on any reptile product, and buy 1, get the 2nd 20% off all reptile  & aquatic frozen food. All deals are active through Aug. 2.
