The Orlando Museum of Art (OMA) offers school field trips that connect art with subjects such as history, social studies, and language arts. Through docent-led tours of current exhibitions, students can explore original artwork, discuss what they observe, and strengthen critical-thinking skills.

Located in Orlando’s Loch Haven Park, the museum tailors its educational programs to classroom needs and Florida educational standards. Field trips cost $10 per student, although students from select Orange County Public Schools can attend for free through funding from United Arts of Central Florida. Schools outside Orange County may also qualify for financial assistance. https://omart.org/learn/school_field_trips/

Field Trip Costs and Chaperone Requirements

Standard school field trips cost $10 per student. Teachers at eligible Orange County Public Schools can request a complimentary visit through the museum’s supported program. Schools should contact OMA’s Education Department to confirm eligibility and ask whether funding is available for their district.

The museum also offers one complimentary chaperone for every 10 students. Each additional adult costs $14, which teachers should factor into their trip budgets.

Current Exhibitions Connect Art With Classroom Learning

OMA’s field trips are built around its collections and changing exhibitions, giving teachers opportunities to connect gallery visits with classroom lessons.

Exhibitions on view during fall 2026 include:

  • The Wild Path: Connecting the Florida We Don’t See — On view through Jan. 3, 2027, this exhibition features 70 photographs by National Geographic photographer Carlton Ward Jr. The work explores the Florida panther and the state’s wildlife corridor, offering connections to environmental science, conservation, and Florida geography.

  • Floridiana: Material Culture from The Sunshine State — Running through Jan. 10, 2027, the exhibition features more than 130 vintage tourist items that illustrate Florida’s tourism history and the ways the state has been presented to visitors.

  • Hello Sophie! The Artwork of Sophie Blackall — On view through Jan. 3, 2027, this exhibition features original artwork by children’s book author and illustrator Sophie Blackall. The illustrations offer opportunities to explore visual storytelling, literature, and the creative process.

Teachers can share their classroom topics when requesting a visit so the museum can tailor the tour to students’ learning needs.

How to Schedule a School Field Trip

Educators should submit a request through OMA’s School Field Trips page. Separate request forms are available for Orange County Public Schools and other educators and groups, including private schools and independent-study families.

The museum recommends booking at least two weeks in advance, with earlier requests encouraged to help secure a preferred date. Group sizes and tour options vary by program, so teachers should have their expected student numbers and grade levels ready when submitting a request.

Field trips are generally scheduled during regular museum hours, excluding holidays, the annual Festival of Trees, and other announced closure dates. Monday visits may be possible by special arrangement with the Education Department.

Cancellations made within 10 days of the scheduled visit result in the forfeiture of the deposit, according to OMA’s field trip guidelines.

What Teachers Should Know Before Visiting

Teachers should plan chaperone assignments in advance and review expectations for student behavior in the galleries. OMA does not have an indoor lunch area, but groups can arrange to eat outdoors in Loch Haven Park.

The museum is located at 2416 N. Mills Ave., Orlando, FL 32803. Regular public hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The museum is closed on Mondays and major holidays, although special arrangements may be available for school groups.

For questions about eligibility, tour options, scheduling, or field trip requirements, contact OMA’s Education Department at education@omart.org or 407-896-4231, ext. 262.
