Just in time for Halloween season, Orlando Family Stage is diving into the spooky spirit with a delightfully eerie production of Goosebumps The Musical: Phantom of the Auditorium, running from October 4 through November 2, 2025. This family-friendly thriller-comedy blends catchy songs, light scares, and heartfelt lessons in a stage adaptation of R.L. Stine’s beloved children’s novel.

Perfect for kids, tweens, and adults, the production captures the creepy-fun essence that made the Goosebumps book series a cultural phenomenon for decades.

About the Musical

The story follows middle school students Brooke and Zeke, who are excited to land the lead roles in their school’s annual play — only to discover their production might be haunted. As eerie events disrupt rehearsals and rumors of a “phantom” lurking in the auditorium grow, the students must face their fears, trust each other, and get to the bottom of the mystery before opening night.

Director Tara Kromer leads a talented creative team that includes Music Director Chris Endsley, Choreographer Laura Mansoori, and Scenic Designer Tim Brown, who together bring R.L. Stine’s suspenseful world to life in a 75-minute performance filled with theatrical surprises.

“This show lets kids see that being scared doesn’t mean backing down,” said Jeffrey M. Revels, Orlando Family Stage’s longtime Artistic Director. “It’s about learning to trust yourself, trust your friends, and embrace the adventure together. That’s exactly what our mission is about.”

While Goosebumps The Musical offers plenty of giggles and jump-scares, it’s also a platform for important emotional growth. With themes of bravery, cooperation, and empathy are central to the show — an intentional choice by Orlando Family Stage, Florida’s only professional theatre dedicated solely to young audiences.

For nearly 100 years, the nonprofit has been creating impactful theatre that encourages young people to build courage, face challenges, and think creatively. Whether they’re sitting in the audience or stepping on stage, children are encouraged to explore big feelings in a safe, supportive environment.

The stories blend horror, humor, and mystery in a way that resonates across generations. “Phantom of the Auditorium” is one of the most popular installments of the series and was previously adapted into a TV episode in the 1990s. The stage version builds on that legacy, adding music, movement, and interactive suspense to delight a new generation.
