Opera Orlando will present Silent Night, the acclaimed modern opera by composer Kevin Puts and librettist Mark Campbell, in Steinmetz Hall at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on Feb. 6 and Feb. 8.

First performed in 2011, Silent Night earned the 2012 Pulitzer Prize for Music for its portrayal of the 1914 Christmas Truce during World War I. The opera is based on historical events that saw soldiers from opposing sides briefly set aside conflict in a moment of shared humanity. Sung in multiple languages with English and Spanish supertitles, the work has become one of the most frequently staged contemporary operas worldwide.

The Orlando production features tenor Brendan J. Boyle, soprano Julia Radosz, and Grammy Award-winning baritone Gabriel Preisser, who also serves as Opera Orlando’s general director. The performance includes the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and the Opera Orlando Chorus.

In advance of opening weekend, Opera Orlando will host several educational and behind-the-scenes events tied to the production. These include a film screening of Joyeux Noël at Enzian Theater on Jan. 22, a conductor-led masterclass on Jan. 23, and a scene shop open house on Jan. 27, offering insight into the production’s design process. Some events are free with registration, while others require paid admission.

Silent Night runs approximately two and a half hours, including one intermission, and is recommended for general audiences. Pre-show talks will be offered to ticket holders before each performance.

Tickets start at $22 and are available through the Dr. Phillips Center box office and website.
