Women’s Money Matters announced that a new cohort of its Life Launch program will begin Monday, May 11, at 7 p.m. ET, with registration still open for participants nationwide. The free program is designed for young women and girls ages 14 to 24 and focuses on essential financial skills, including budgeting, saving, credit building, job preparation, and debt management.

The fully virtual program pairs each participant with a one-on-one financial coach who provides individualized guidance throughout the course. Organizers say the initiative was created to help young women navigate financial challenges that many are never formally taught how to manage.

“Most young women never get a formal introduction to personal finance,” said Carla Poulos in a press release. “Life Launch gives you the tools and a coach in your corner to help you build the financial foundation for a life you love.”

According to Women’s Money Matters, women currently hold nearly two-thirds of all student loan debt in the United States and typically take longer than men to repay those loans. The organization also points to research showing that many young Americans lack confidence in their financial knowledge, particularly when it comes to building wealth and preparing for adulthood.

The nonprofit says those financial disparities can be even greater for young women of color due to long-standing systemic inequities. About 70% of the organization’s participants identify as women of color.

Over the course of the program, participants attend weekly workshops while working directly with their assigned coach to set financial goals and develop practical money-management skills. Organizers say past graduates have increased their savings by an average of 254%, boosted their monthly income by 26%, and improved their credit scores by more than 40 points. Nearly all graduates reported feeling more confident managing their finances after completing the program.

Life Launch is offered in both English and Spanish and is available virtually and in person in select areas. Participants who enroll in the May cohort will also receive a $100 incentive to help put their new financial skills into practice, along with the opportunity to earn up to an additional $75 upon graduation.

Registration is free through Women’s Money Matters.
