Walt Disney World is preparing for a new addition to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which is launching The Magic of Disney Animation in 2026. The new attraction will take over the former Star Wars: Launch Bay facility, which officially closed in September 2025 to make way for construction.

The experience will serve as the anchor for a fully reimagined land called The Walt Disney Studios, replacing the long-standing Animation Courtyard. The redesign aims to capture the spirit of Disney’s historic Burbank studio campus, complete with new landscaping, guest areas, and a refreshed entertainment footprint.

The Magic of Disney Animation will feature an exterior inspired by the real Roy E. Disney Animation Building, including a new Sorcerer Hat design that serves as a visual centerpiece for the updated area.

Inside, guests will step into an interactive animation environment bringing Disney characters and the creative process to life. Key confirmed components include:

  • Living portrait galleries where characters interact with guests through the frames.

  • A short film experience highlighting Disney’s storytelling legacy.

  • A hands-on drawing studio where visitors can learn to sketch Disney characters with guidance.

For families, the attraction will also include a new “Drawn to Wonderland” indoor play area, inspired by early concept art for Alice in Wonderland. The space will feature a whimsical garden setting, interactive play structures, and themed activities designed for younger guests.

While the Animation Courtyard closure affects Launch Bay and the former Disney Jr. Play and Dance!, nearby entertainment such as The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure and Walt Disney Presents remain open to guests throughout the transition. The refresh will also introduce other attractions like a new Disney Jr. live show once the area is reopened.

As Disney World continues its expansions and updates in the new year, this attraction is expected to be a must-see area. After guest demands for immersive attractions that celebrate Disney’s storytelling, this experience aligns closely with blends of nostalgia, innovation, and family-friendly engagement.
