Delta Air Lines announced new technology and services designed to reduce airport wait times and improve the overall travel experience. The updates focus on faster baggage transfer, biometric security screening and more efficient airport drop-offs.
One of the key changes is the expansion of Delta’s international baggage transfer program. Passengers arriving in the United States from Seoul’s Incheon International Airport and connecting through select hubs, including Minneapolis-St. Paul and Detroit, no longer need to pick up and recheck their luggage. After clearing customs, checked bags are automatically transferred to the next flight. This streamlined baggage process can help travelers make tighter connections and avoid delays at baggage claim.
Delta is also expanding TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, a biometric screening system that uses facial recognition to verify passengers at security checkpoints. The touchless ID system allows eligible travelers to move through airport security without showing a physical ID, helping reduce lines and speed up the screening process. The technology is now available at more than 60 airports across the United States, including all Delta hub airports.
In addition, the airline is increasing access to its App Bag Drop feature. Travelers who check in through the Fly Delta mobile app can quickly drop off their checked luggage at designated stations, reducing time spent at airport counters. The mobile-based system is part of Delta’s broader effort to digitize the check-in process and improve efficiency.
Delta is also working with Uber to improve airport drop-offs. At airports such as LaGuardia Airport in New York and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the Uber app directs drivers to designated drop-off areas. The goal is to reduce curbside congestion and make it easier for passengers to reach the correct terminal.
By improving baggage handling, expanding biometric security and simplifying drop-offs, Delta aims to create a faster and more predictable airport experience for passengers.
