Some bonds happen over time while others are woven in from the very beginning.
For twin sisters, Aimee and Ashleigh Miller, motherhood is not just something they each stepped into; it’s something they’ve grown into side by side. This Mother’s Day, the twin sisters unknowingly nominated each other for the Share Her Story campaign, each convinced the other deserved to be celebrated.
“Aimee is my twin sister and my best friend,” Ashliegh shared. “To be known by her is to be loved by her, fully, unconditionally, and without reservation.”
While Aimee said, “She is my womb-mate, my built-in best friend, and the person I am most proud to know.”
Instead of choosing between them, it became clear that the only way to tell this story is to tell it together.
Aimee Miller
During the pandemic, Aimee’s life changed forever. She was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
That diagnosis led to brain surgery, single-sided deafness, and months of physical therapy as she relearned her balance during a time when every appointment had to be done alone. But according to Ashleigh, what defines her is not what happened but what she chose to do next.
“She took something that would have made most people bitter and used it to improve her life and others,” said Ashleigh. “She doesn’t just survive hard things. She transforms them.”
Aimee returned to school and earned her Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Florida. She conducted research at Boys Town National Research Hospital, advocated for accessibility, and built a career helping families navigate hearing loss and complex diagnoses, all while living with hearing loss herself.

Today, she is preparing for the opening of the Attuned Child Center, combining her expertise as an audiologist and mental health counselor to create more family-centered care.
But if you ask her sister what matters most, the answer isn’t found in any degree or these accomplishments.
For Aimee, motherhood is not separate from who she is in her work or her healing journey. She shows up fully present when life is demanding in every aspect.
“She loves her son with her whole heart,” said Ashleigh. “Feature her not just as a doctor, or a business owner, or a survivor, but as a mother who shows her son every single day what it looks like to turn hard things into something beautiful.”
That beauty often shows up in ordinary moments like Lego bricks across the floor, bedtime stories, backward shirts proudly chosen by a toddler learning independence, or full Baby Shark performances in matching costumes, Ashleigh explains.
“I want people to know that her joy is real,” she said. “Everything she has built has been built through some of the hardest seasons a person can face, and she did it all with grace, grit, and that signature smile that never seems to waver.”

Before she became a mother herself, Ashleigh learned what it meant to fight to be heard.
At 17, after years of being dismissed by doctors and questioning symptoms, she was finally diagnosed with Narcolepsy Type 1 with Cataplexy. This is a neurological disorder that affects sleep regulation and can cause overwhelming exhaustion and sudden muscle weakness.
“Most people assume narcolepsy means sleeping too much, but that’s not the full picture,” said Aimee. “Even with medication, she averages just two to four hours of sleep each night.”
Still, Ashleigh built a remarkable life around helping others. She earned her master’s degree, became a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, and dedicated her career to supporting neurodiverse children and their families with compassion and respect.
“She doesn’t try to change who her clients are,” said Aimee. “She meets them exactly where they are.”

Then came motherhood. To safely carry her daughter, Elowen, Ashleigh chose to stop taking the medication that helped manage her narcolepsy symptoms during pregnancy, stepping back into the exhaustion and cataplexy attacks she had spent years learning to control.
“She endured every sleepless, symptom-filled day with quiet determination,” Aimee said.
Yet, Ashleigh is the mother with the activity-filled diaper bag, the backup snacks, the Disney sing-alongs before bed, and the spare car seat ready in case her nephew needs a ride. She is the mom who notices every tiny detail, even a wardrobe change on the daycare monitor.
“She mothers in a thousand quiet, generous details every single day,” Aimee said.
To those closest to her, Ashleigh’s strength isn’t loud or performative. It’s found in the consistency with which she cares for others while navigating challenges most people never see.
“She does the hard things, the scary things, the exhausting things,” Aimee said. “And she does them without making a show of it.”
Sisterhood Rooted in Love
Together, Aimee and Ashleigh’s stories paint a beautiful picture of resilience, motherhood, and the kind of sisterhood that becomes part of who you are. They are each other’s biggest cheerleaders, safest place, and longest friendship twin sisters who have spent a lifetime making the world brighter for everyone around them.
“We’ve been best friends since before we were born,” Aimee said.
And after hearing both of their stories, it’s clear they’ve been helping each other shine ever since.
