Orlando International Airport Braces for Record-Breaking Fourth of July Travel Surge

Travelers passing through Orlando International Airport (MCO) this Fourth of July holiday can expect heightened activity, with airport officials anticipating one of the busiest travel periods on record.

According to projections from the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, more than 1.43 million passengers are expected to fly in and out of MCO over a nine-day period stretching from Sunday, June 29, through Monday, July 7. This marks a 2% increase in passenger volume compared to the same holiday window in 2024.

The busiest day is forecasted to be Sunday, July 6, when more than 175,000 travelers are expected to pass through the terminals—a single-day high that underscores the airport’s growing status as a major travel hub.

To help passengers navigate the surge in traffic and Florida’s sweltering summer heat, MCO is reminding travelers of its “Pack, Park, Plan” strategy:

  • Pack light to ease airport screening.

  • Park smart by using the airport’s online reservation system to secure a parking spot.

  • Plan ahead and allow ample time for check-in and security screening.

In addition, airport officials encourage the use of the MCO App, which provides real-time updates on flight status, TSA security wait times, and terminal information. Travelers can also schedule TSA screening appointments in advance to streamline the security process.

With parking lots expected to reach capacity and terminals likely to be crowded, passengers are urged to arrive early and stay informed to ensure a smoother travel experience.
