On Thursday, April 16, students, faculty, and experts gathered at Full Sail University for its ribbon cutting ceremony for the Grand Opening of their IBM Cyber Defense Range powered by AWS and Cloud Range, an immersive facility that will support cyber security.
The facility is the first of the southeast region, and a collaboration between Full Sail University, IBM, AWS, and Cloud Range.
The new space on campus will be available to students in the Cybersecurity Bachelor of Science Completion and Information Technology Bachelor of Science programs, where they can participate in live cybersecurity attack-and-defense exercises, according to the Full Sail press release.
The Cyber Defense Range is over 1,400 square feet and 28 stations. Each station is equipped with 27-inch HP monitors, HP Elite desktops, and Thunderbolt Hubs. The trainings in the facility will feature real-world cyberthreat situations that will support hands-on training, research, workforce development, and collaboration with other defense ranges.
“The Full Sail University IBM Cyber Defense Range powered by AWS and Cloud Range strategically connects academic instruction with real-world, industry-specific application, developing the technical expertise, critical thinking, and collaborative capabilities required in today’s complex security environment,” said Dr. Haifa Maamar, PhD., Executive Director of Emerging Technologies at Full Sail University, according to the Full Sail press release.
After a short presentation, a white ribbon with the IBM, AWS, and Cloud Range logos were cut by a representative from each brand. Garry Jones, President of Full Sail University; Dr. Haifa Maamar, PhD., Executive Director of Emerging Technologies at Full Sail University; Rene Plasencia, IBM Consultant; Michael Curry, Senior Leader of Amazon Web Service, and Jason Stutt, Chief Revenue Officer of Cloud Range participated in the ribbon cutting.
