The Florida Department of Health in Orange County (DOH-Orange) will observe National HIV Testing Day with a public event on Friday, June 27, aimed at raising awareness about HIV testing and prevention. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with free testing available at 4774 S. Semoran Blvd.
National HIV Testing Day serves as a nationwide call to action, encouraging individuals to know their HIV status and take proactive steps in preventing transmission. According to health officials, getting tested is the first and most crucial step in protecting oneself and others from HIV.
DOH-Orange is emphasizing the importance of routine testing and offering guidance on preventive strategies such as the use of PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), consistent protection during sexual activity, and regular HIV screenings—particularly for individuals at higher risk.
For those who test positive, early treatment is key. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has been proven to significantly improve health outcomes, extend life expectancy, and reduce the risk of transmission. Individuals who maintain an undetectable viral load through consistent treatment cannot transmit HIV to sexual partners.
To support prevention and care, both PrEP and HIV treatments are now available in multiple formats, including daily pills and long-acting injectable options—giving patients more flexibility in managing their health.
In addition to hosting this awareness event, DOH-Orange provides ongoing services such as HIV testing, PrEP consultations, and support for individuals living with HIV. For more information about the June 27 event or to schedule an appointment for services, residents can call 407-858-1437.
