Cold weather is settling into Central Florida this week, prompting several major theme park resorts to temporarily close their water parks due to low temperatures and inclement weather conditions. While water park operations will be affected for a few days, theme parks at Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort and SeaWorld Orlando are expected to remain open as usual.

Universal’s Volcano Bay

Universal Orlando Resort announced on social media that Volcano Bay will be closed on Tuesday as part of a previously scheduled seasonal closure. The water park will also remain closed on Wednesday due to inclement weather associated with the cold front moving through the region. Universal plans to reopen Volcano Bay on Jan. 1, weather permitting.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon

At Walt Disney World, Typhoon Lagoon will temporarily suspend operations because of the forecasted cold temperatures. According to the Disney World calendar, the water park will be closed Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Typhoon Lagoon is expected to reopen on Friday, assuming conditions improve.

Aquatica Orlando

SeaWorld Orlando officials said Aquatica Orlando is closed Tuesday for daytime operations. However, the park’s nighttime Illuminate event is still scheduled to take place from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Aquatica will also be closed on Wednesday, and SeaWorld said it is continuing to assess whether daytime operations can resume on Thursday.

Discovery Cove

Discovery Cove, SeaWorld’s all-inclusive day resort, will also be impacted by the cold snap. The resort is scheduled to remain closed through Wednesday.

Cold Front Brings Chilly Temperatures

The closures come as a strong cold front moves into Central Florida.

Guests planning visits to Central Florida attractions are encouraged to check official park websites and social media channels for the latest updates, as operating schedules may change depending on weather conditions.
