On Friday, April 24, HCA Florida Healthcare volunteers presented a $20,000 donation to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida in celebration of National Volunteer month.
According to the HCA Florida Healthcare press release, on April 3 and April 24 over 100 HCA volunteers gathered to help sort and pack food donations. These days were a part of HCA Healthcare’s We Show Up for Our Communities initiative that happens every April.
“Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a key partner in our work to give people a healthier tomorrow through its vital efforts to address hunger in our community,” said David Shimp, CEO of HCA Florida Osceola Hospital, according to the press release. “We’re honored to support Second Harvest with today’s financial gift as well as the service of our dedicated volunteers, at the events this month and all year long.”
The $20,000 donation is to support families experiencing insecurity, according to the press release. Through HCA Florida Healthcare’s We Show Up initiative, HCA has contributed up to $70,000, hundreds of pounds of food and thousands of volunteer hours to Second Harvest Bank of Central Florida since the birth of their collaboration in 2021.
The initiative is focused to provide resources and quality healthcare to patients at HCA Florida Healthcare. In 2025, over 11,700 HCA Florida Healthcare colleagues supported more than 2,000 nonprofit organizations in Florida, according to the press release. Almost 55,700 volunteer hours and over $3.5 million in contributions were provided last year.
