‘A Speakeasy Christmas Carol’ Brings a Roaring ’20s Twist to Orlando This Holiday Season

Orlando audiences can experience a different take on a holiday classic this December when A Speakeasy Christmas Carol brings gangsters, ghosts, live entertainment, and a festive dinner to The Speakeasy Murder & Other Acts of Prohibition.

The production will run on select dates from December 2 through December 30, reimagining Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in the world of 1920s organized crime. The family-friendly show combines holiday nostalgia with the atmosphere of a Prohibition-era speakeasy, offering a theatrical experience for families, locals, and visitors spending the season in Central Florida.

Set on Christmas Eve in 1924 at The 38, a fictional New York City speakeasy, the story follows Johnnie “Two Hat” Stokes, an ambitious young mob boss whose success has left little room for Christmas spirit.

His outlook changes when his deceased former mob partner returns with a warning, followed by three Christmas spirits who force him to confront his past, present, and future. In this version of Dickens’ classic, the consequences of Stokes’ choices reach beyond personal redemption, potentially putting his life at stake.

The production reimagines familiar characters and themes through the colorful world of The Speakeasy, incorporating live performances, Christmas carols, festive surprises, and theatrical storytelling.

Family-Friendly Alternative to Murder Mystery

While The Speakeasy is known for its interactive murder mystery dinner show, A Speakeasy Christmas Carol takes a different approach. Rather than asking guests to solve a fictional crime, the holiday production focuses on a scripted theatrical story filled with suspense, larger-than-life characters, and unexpected turns.

Creator and producer Erik Hastings said the new production gives returning audiences an opportunity to see familiar characters in a different light while introducing new guests to the experience.

The family-friendly format is designed to welcome multiple generations, including children, parents, and grandparents.

According to Hastings, the production expands The Speakeasy’s entertainment offerings without replacing its signature murder mystery. The broader concept centers on immersive storytelling, live entertainment, and hospitality, allowing the venue to explore different theatrical genres while maintaining its distinctive setting.

The experience extends beyond the performance with a holiday-themed dinner and seasonal cocktails and mocktails available for purchase.

Guests are encouraged to dress in Roaring Twenties-inspired attire and arrive early to enjoy the venue’s “Jewel” pre-show and post-show space before entering The 38 for dinner and the performance.

The combination of themed surroundings, food and live entertainment is intended to make the production an evening out rather than simply a stage performance.

The Speakeasy’s regular interactive murder mystery dinner show will also continue throughout December, giving audiences the option to choose between the holiday adaptation and the venue’s established format.

Since opening in Orlando in April 2025, The Speakeasy Murder & Other Acts of Prohibition has expanded to Buena Park, California, with further growth planned for its broader Speakeasy Universe in 2027.

The experience was created and produced by EG Murder Media, led by Emmy Award-winning television host and producer Erik Hastings, known for Erik the Travel Guy and Beyond Your Backyard, and Gary Littman, a producer with Broadway and West End theater experience who has also worked as a voiceover artist and television and stage actor.

With A Speakeasy Christmas Carol, the company is adding a seasonal production to its lineup, offering audiences another way to experience its immersive theatrical world.
