Children can explore creativity and learn basic money-management skills during Art Shop, a free program coming to Lutz Branch Library on Thursday, Nov. 5.

Hosted by the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative, the one-hour activity invites children ages 6–12 to shop for art supplies using play money and create an original masterpiece while staying within a set budget.

The hands-on program combines art with practical lessons in financial literacy, encouraging children to weigh their options, make spending decisions, and work creatively with the supplies they choose.

Art and Budgeting Come Together

During Art Shop, participants will browse a pretend store and use play money to select materials for their artwork. They must consider their budget as they decide which supplies to purchase before putting those materials to use in a creative project.

The activity introduces children to basic budgeting and decision-making in an engaging, age-appropriate setting while giving them the freedom to express themselves through art.
