On Thursday, July 16, Avianca held a celebration for its 15 years at Orlando International Airport (MCO). In that event were dancers, cookies, coffee, and speeches given by the airline’s leadership.
Since its launch on July 12, 2011, the carrier has grown exponentially and now offers 32 weekly flights out of Orlando from Bogotá and Medellín in Colombia to San Salvador in El Salvador.
“For 15 years, Avianca has played an important role in strengthening ties between Central Florida and Latin America, creating opportunities for tourism, business, and meaningful connections between families and communities,” said Lance Lyttle, Chief Executive Officer of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, which operates MCO. “Their continued investment in Orlando reflects the strength of this partnership and confidence in our region’s future. As we continue elevating MCO through significant investments in our facilities and passenger experience, we look forward to supporting Avianca’s continued growth for many years to come.”
Between 2022 and 2025, their Orlando operations nearly doubled as they surged from 990 flights and approximately 136,000 passengers in 2022. In 2025, those numbers grew to 1,900 flights and more than 301,600 passengers. Now, in 2026, Avianca increased its Bogotá-Orlando service from 14 to 21 weekly flights and also transitioned its Orlando-Medellín route from seasonal service to a year-round daily operation.
Avianca isn’t planning on stopping there. When speaking with Rolando Damas, Avianca’s Sales Director for North America, he shared where they hope to expand their ports.
“We’re a part of the Abra group now. It’s an umbrella conglomerate of airlines, so it’s Avianca GOL from Brazil and Guamos from Spain,” said Damas. “GOL actually is a Brazilian airline that operates to Orlando, and we’re looking to actually, through GOL, start service from Rio to Orlando.”
Out of MCO, the airline operates 100 weekly flights to Colombia, Ecuador, and Central America. Florida travelers are granted access to a broad network of over 140 routes across 25 countries. The growth isn’t only in Orlando. In 2025, the airline as a whole transported over 4.9 million passengers and operated more than 400 weekly flights from 14 U.S. gateways and to and from the country that is a 6% increase from 2024.
