For anyone who has ever felt relaxed while someone gently brushed their hair, ran their fingers through it, or massaged their scalp, a new business in Downtown Kissimmee is turning those familiar sensations into an intentional relaxation experience.
The Zen Oasis Room, founded by Kairy, is a private ASMR-inspired relaxation experience centered around hair play, scalp relaxation, and sensory techniques. According to Kairy, the Zen Oasis is the first dedicated business of its kind in Kissimmee.
The experience is different from a traditional hair salon or spa treatment. It is a dry sensory experience, meaning there is no shampooing, washing, cutting, coloring, or blow-drying involved.
Instead, the focus is on the sensations associated with hair play and relaxation.
During a session, clients relax in a private, peaceful environment while experiencing a variety of sensory techniques.
These may include slow brushing, gentle finger-combing, feather-light touches, soothing scalp techniques, and sensory tools. Aromatherapy, calming sounds, heated and cooling elements, and other carefully curated sensory techniques may also be part of the experience.
The concept is inspired in part by ASMR, or autonomous sensory meridian response. Some people who experience ASMR describe tingling sensations that can begin around the scalp and travel down the neck or back.
There is no pressure to talk or rush through the experience. The Zen Oasis Room hair play may also bring back a nostalgic, familiar feeling of having their hair brushed as a child.
What to Expect
While similar ASMR hair-play experiences can be found in other states and parts of Florida, Kairy said she wanted to bring a dedicated experience to the Kissimmee community.
