Florida tourism continues to reach new heights, with Governor Ron DeSantis announcing Tuesday that the state welcomed 34.4 million visitors in the second quarter of 2025, marking a historic record for this time of year. The milestone underscores Florida’s standing as one of the nation’s most popular travel destinations.

“Florida continues to lead the way as the nation’s top travel destination,” DeSantis said in a press release. “People from all over the world come to the Free State of Florida to take advantage of our top-tier attractions, great weather, and our commitment to public safety. Today’s record numbers are a testament to the work we’ve done to make Florida the most appealing state to visit in the nation.”

Visitor Breakdown

According to estimates from VISIT FLORIDA, domestic travelers represented the majority of visitors, making up 91.5% of total visitation. Nearly 31.5 million Americans visited the state during Q2.

International tourism also showed notable growth:

  • Overseas visitation increased 11.4% year-over-year, reaching 2.3 million travelers.

  • Canadian visitation totaled 640,000, representing 1.9% of the total.

Travel and Accommodation Trends

Florida’s transportation and lodging sectors also saw gains during the quarter:

  • The state’s 19 commercial airports handled 28.6 million total enplanements. Punta Gorda (+22.5%) and St. Petersburg-Clearwater (+14.0%) airports reported the fastest growth.

  • Domestic air travel accounted for 37.7% of visitation, while non-air travel represented 62.3%.

  • Hotel room demand rose by 1.2% compared to the same period last year.

Outlook for Florida Tourism

With both domestic and international visitation climbing, industry leaders say the results reflect Florida’s resilience and strong appeal among travelers. The second-quarter record builds on Florida’s long-term strategy to attract visitors through a mix of diverse attractions, favorable weather, and a growing reputation for safety and accessibility.
