Speculation is mounting that Elon Musk’s Boring Company could bring its underground tunnel transportation system to Orlando’s International Drive, potentially linking major attractions such as Universal Orlando Resort, the Orange County Convention Center, and a future Brightline station.

While no official proposal has been submitted, the possibility of a Las Vegas-style “Loop” system has caught the attention of local officials and business leaders. Orange County leaders have acknowledged the buzz, stating they are closely monitoring developments but confirming that the Boring Company or Universal Resorts have presented no formal plans.

The proposed transit system would utilize underground tunnels to move passengers in autonomous Teslas, similar to the model currently operating in Las Vegas. There, the Boring Company’s system has been in place since 2021, designed to alleviate surface-level traffic and provide quicker connections between high-demand areas.

If implemented in Orlando, the system could connect Universal’s newly opened Epic Universe theme park—located east of Interstate 4—with Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure on the west side. It could also serve other key destinations along International Drive, helping to ease congestion in one of Central Florida’s most visited areas.

Universal, along with Orange County, has already invested heavily in infrastructure to support the area’s growing tourism footprint. In May, a $300 million project was completed to extend Kirkman Road, improving access to Epic Universe. A tunnel transit system could represent the next major step in enhancing connectivity across the region.

Despite growing interest and speculation, several key questions remain unanswered. Neither Universal nor the Boring Company has commented publicly, and details regarding funding, construction timelines, or operational oversight are still unknown.

Elon Musk, already a significant figure in Florida through SpaceX operations on the Space Coast, could further expand his footprint in the state with this potential venture. However, for now, local leaders and residents are watching and waiting as the future of transportation on International Drive hangs in the balance.
