Visit Florida Launches Docuseries Celebrating the State’s Role in America’s History Ahead of 250th Anniversary

As the United States prepares to commemorate its 250th anniversary in 2026, Florida is spotlighting its own influential role in shaping the nation through a new documentary series designed to inspire both education and travel. 

Visit Florida announced the launch of America 250: A Portrait of Florida, a seven-episode docuseries highlighting the people, places, and pivotal moments that have helped define both Florida and the American story. Released as part of the state’s America250FL commemorations, the series encourages viewers to explore Florida’s historic destinations while reflecting on the state’s contributions to the nation. 

Produced on behalf of Florida’s Semiquincentennial Advisory Commission, the series features seven iconic destinations across the state, including St. Augustine, Pensacola, Tallahassee, Cape Canaveral, Key West, the Everglades, Miami, and Tampa. Each episode examines a unique chapter of Florida’s history, from early exploration and military significance to innovation in space travel and culture. 

“Florida’s story is America’s story,” said Ron DeSantis in a press release. “From the earliest days of exploration to its role in shaping the nation’s future, Florida has been at the center of key moments in our history.” 

Florida Secretary of State Cord Byrd described the series as both a celebration and an educational resource for the state’s America250FL initiative, which will continue for the entire year. 

“The Portrait of America docuseries tells Florida’s history with the boldness and conviction it deserves,” said Byrd. “It offers both inspiration for this milestone year and a lasting contribution to how we understand Florida’s place in America’s story.” 

According to Visit Florida President and CEO Bryan Griddin, the project was also created to encourage residents and visitors alike to experience Florida’s historic sites, museums, and landmarks firsthand. 

“Florida celebrates America, and Visit Florida is proud to offer this docuseries as a contribution to the statewide commemoration of America 250,” Griffin said. “Florida has a long history of exploration, innovation, and courage.” 

Four episodes of the series have already been released, with three more to be released through the rest of May and June, leading up to the Fourth of July. Video production for the series was completed by Emergent Media. 

The docuseries serves as one of Florida’s major contributions to the nationwide America 250 celebration and aims to connect audiences with the state’s accomplishments while encouraging travel to these destinations.
