Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Monday that Florida has broken its tourism record as the number one destination for Americans, a trend that began in 2019 and continues to soar.
Florida has secured a record 15.5% share in the domestic vacation market in 2024, nearly a one-point increase from 2023. This is the sixth time the state has broken its tourism record during DeSantis’ tenure.
“Florida is the world’s favorite place to visit,” DeSantis said in a press release. “This record tourism is a result of policies that prioritize freedom, public safety, and common sense.”
The first two months of 2025 also recorded a high level of international travel into the Sunshine State. There was a 0.5% increase in Canadian visitation, which stands out among the 2.3% decline in Canadian travel to the U.S. nationally. There was also a 6.5% increase in overseas travel into Florida, noting the U.K., Brazil and Argentina as top visitors.
DeSantis also announced in February 2025 that Florida had a record-breaking 142.9 million visitors in 2024, representing a 1.6% increase over 2023. During 2024’s fourth quarter, there were also 33.1 million visitors to Florida—the highest number recorded during a Q4 period. That figure was made up of 29.9 million domestic visitors, 2.5 million overseas travelers and 742,000 Canadian tourists.
“Florida’s tourism sector remains a cornerstone of the state’s economy and a model of sustained success in the global travel industry,” the press release stated.
