Planet Fitness has unveiled new amenities for their Black Card members at their recovery spa, and we were invited to test out the new tech. When arriving at the Planet Fitness in Sanford (West), FL at 111 Towne Center Blvd., Sanford, FL 32771, we were greeted by the General Manager who would guide us through their new rooms in the spa.
First, we sat on the zero gravity chair in the lobby. This chair can go back 180 degrees, elevating your feet over your head. This helps improve blood circulation and relieve pressure in the back. While sitting in the chair, you can also use their Hyperice Percussion Massager. This massager is handheld, so you can specifically target areas that need more recovery.
Then, we were taken to the red light therapy bed. Similar to a tanning bed, you lay down as red lights are all around you. The staff made sure to give protective eyewear as the lights are quite bright. According to UCLA Health, red light can help reduce signs of aging, minimize acne, encourage hair growth, improve cognitive function, and ease chronic pain. The bed can go up to a 12 minute session, and we must admit, it was quite relaxing.
Next, was the Veraspa Pro Wellift spray tan machine. This cylindrical structure is completely touchless as it uses sensors to measure your height. No one has to be in the room with you as the nozzles spray you down giving you complete privacy. Not only does the machine spray tan, but it also has separate functions to hydrate, lift, and, recover your skin.
In case you needed an extra dose of red light, there is also a red light sauna. It fits one person and there are red lights that hit the back, arms, chest, etc. You are able to choose where you want the red light to hit and the temperature. However, once you choose where you want the temperature to be, you will not be able to change it during the session. You can also end the session at any time.
One of our favorite parts was trying out the HydroMassage water beds. This uses warm water pressure to give a massage underneath the chairs padding. It surprisingly proved very effective.
We were not able to stay warm for very long though as well dried out the Polar Dry Plunge. This looks similar to a massage chair and can even give a somewhat massage, but its main focus is helping with recovery deep in the bones. There are ways to wrap yourself in the cold padding, where, once you start the session, it can drop to from 25 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit. Sessions go from three to seven minutes, but you are able to stop the session at any time. This one is definitely one to work your way up to.
