For nearly a century, the Duda family has played a defining role in shaping Florida’s agricultural landscape. This enduring legacy was recently recognized by the Seminole County Farm Bureau, which presented DUDA with the 2025 Legacy in Agriculture Award during the Florida Farm Bureau’s annual membership meeting and luncheon on October 11.

Founded in 1926 by Andrew Duda and his sons, A. Duda & Sons began as a small celery farm built on faith, perseverance, and the pursuit of the American dream. Andrew Duda emigrated from Slovakia to the United States in 1909 with hopes of owning land, freely practicing his faith, and building a better life for his family. He settled among other Slovak families in the Central Florida community of Slavia, where he and his sons—John, Andrew Jr., and Ferdinand—harvested their first cash crop of celery in 1926, officially establishing the family business.

Over the past five generations, DUDA has evolved far beyond its agricultural roots. Today, the company operates a diverse portfolio of businesses with leading reputations in agriculture, community development, and home building. Guided by its founding principles of faith, integrity, and innovation, DUDA continues to adapt and grow while remaining true to the values that shaped its beginnings.

Now in its fourth generation of leadership, DUDA is managed by a team that includes members of the fourth and fifth generations of the Duda family, alongside seasoned non-family professionals. Governance is overseen by a Board of Directors composed of six Duda family members and four independent directors from various business sectors. In 2004, the Duda Family Council was established to strengthen governance practices and support the company’s long-term vision as it transitioned into its third and subsequent generations.

In addition to its economic impact, DUDA has been recognized for its leadership in environmental stewardship, sustainable practices, and employee well-being. The company’s ongoing commitment to responsible growth and innovation continues to reflect the pioneering spirit of its founder.

As DUDA approaches its 100th anniversary, the Legacy in Agriculture Award serves as a tribute to the family’s enduring contributions to Florida’s agricultural heritage and its continued influence on the future of the industry.
