As the Fourth of July holiday approaches, AAA is preparing to assist nearly 700,000 stranded motorists nationwide. To help prevent impaired driving and reduce alcohol-related crashes, The Auto Club Group is reactivating its “Tow to Go” program in select states, including Florida. The initiative offers a free and confidential ride for impaired drivers and their vehicles, promoting safer travel during one of the year’s busiest travel periods.

Tow to Go Availability

The Tow to Go program will be in effect from 6 p.m. on Friday, July 4, through 6 a.m. on Monday, July 7. This limited-time service is aimed at supporting drivers who find themselves without a safe way home after consuming alcohol.

How the Tow to Go Program Operates

  • Call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO to request service.

  • AAA will transport the driver and their vehicle up to 10 miles.

  • The program is free of charge and available to both AAA members and non-members.

  • Advance reservations are not accepted, as the service is intended for unexpected situations.

Addressing a Critical Safety Concern

Drunk driving remains a leading cause of fatal accidents on U.S. roadways. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):

  • Nearly one-third of all traffic fatalities involve a drunk driver.

  • In 2023, 12,429 lives were lost in alcohol-related crashes.

  • On average, someone dies in a drunk driving crash every 42 minutes.

By providing an alternative to driving under the influence, Tow to Go serves as a crucial tool in AAA’s broader public safety efforts. Since its inception more than 25 years ago, the program has helped remove nearly 30,000 impaired drivers from the road.

Important Considerations

While the service is available in various regions, availability may be limited in rural areas or during severe weather conditions. AAA encourages drivers to plan ahead and use Tow to Go as a last resort for safe transportation.

For more information or to access the service during the designated holiday period, call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO.
