State of the Schools

On Wednesday, May 17, CFHLA co-sponsored the 2017 State of the Orange County Public Schools Address – Separating Fact from Fiction, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Orlando Downtown. This address was given by Orange County School Board Chairman, Bill Sublette and Orange County Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Barbara Jenkins who provided insight on current and future plans for the county school system. Over 350 community leaders and elected officials were in attendance for this sold out event.

Chairman Sublette and Superintendent Jenkins stated that in the 2016-2017 school year, Orange County Public Schools enrolled 6,000 new students. This fall, six new schools will open with 40 new schools on the drawing board for the next 10 years. This year, 15 OCPS high schools were ranked in the nation’s top 10 percent. Currently, the graduation rate is 92.2 percent up from 49 percent in the year 2000.
