On Monday, May 5, the Metropolitan Museum of Art opened their doors to celebrities, designers, and other prominent individuals for the 2025 Met Gala. Through flashing lights, a midnight blue carpet, and stunning fashion, iconic figures walked the steps, showcasing their looks.

The Met Gala is an annual charity event where prominent figures help raise money for the museum’s Costume Institute and exhibitions while dressing to the ever-changing theme.

This year’s theme was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” with the accompanying dress code being “Tailored for you.” The theme explores dandyism, or intense self-expression, and the history of Black style tailoring, while attendees were encouraged to add their own spin.

Given the night’s emphasis on suits and menswear, members leaned on tailoring in both modern and classic forms. Along with hundreds of figures, the audience saw stunning outfits from co-chairs A$AP Rocky, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, Pharrell Williams, and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.

Below are some of what we think are the best-dressed and on-theme looks from the gala.

Rihanna & A$AP Rocky

Rihanna debuted her pregnancy of baby number three with her husband, A$SAP Rocky. She wore an iconic suit-inspired corset dress by Marc Jacobs, he wore a double-breasted parka over a white shirt and black vest from his own agency, AWGE.

Laura Harrier

The actress from Spiderman: Homecoming and BlackkKlansman wore a stunning, ethereal adaptation of a simple coat and trousers. The outfit, surprisingly designed by Gap Studio, is an airy, exaggerated form of a suit accompanied by her princess-like demeanor.

Damson Idris

The former Formula 1 driver entered the gala in a black and white F1-inspired outfit in celebration of his upcoming movie, F1,  with Brad Pitt. The white uniform was created by Tommy Hilfiger, paired with a sparkling helmet of 20,000 Swarovski crystals. As if that wasn’t enough, two assistants tore the suit off and revealed a bright red custom Hilfiger tuxedo.

The “DENIAL IS A RIVER” and “Anxiety” singer pulled up to the Met in trouser shorts with a matching coat and tails. Her outfit was a Pharrell Williams-designed piece by Louis Vuitton paired with Tiffany & Co. jewels.

Chance the Rapper

Chance the Rapper is known for his bold and unique fashion choices, so viewers were not surprised when he followed through this year. Accompanied by Donatella Versace herself, Chance wore a custom tan Versace suit with a leather jacket underneath and a felt hat.

Gigi Hadid

Although she didn’t get the suit memo, Hadid wore a beautiful gold custom gown by Mui Mui that represented black-style to a T. The goddess-like dress paid homage to two Black women as she mentioned in an interview with Vogue. Designer Zelda Wynn Valdez spent her life tailoring pieces for Black People, like triple-threat Josephine Baker, who previously wore this dress.

Colman Domingo

As one of the co-chairs this year, Colman Domingo showed up tailored to him. He entered the carpet wearing a royal blue, bejeweled trench coat and quickly transitioned into this divine patterned suit. He worked with Valentino to create this zoot suit including a vest, boutonniere, and boucheron jewelry.

Jennie

Member of Blackpink and co-star of the new Chanel 25 bag’s campaign, Jennie, used Chanel’s grace to fit perfectly with the theme. Jennie wore an off-the-shoulder black satin jumpsuit and a match skirt over top to add some drama. She topped her look off with a two-toned hat, Chanel, pumps, and pearls throughout.

Doja Cat

After last year’s cat look, many weren’t expecting to be wowed once again, but here we are. Doja Cat wore a custom Marc Jacobs featuring pinstripe bodysuit with exaggerated shoulders and a cheetah print corset. Once again the singer executed the theme flawlessly while still staying true to herself.

Another unforgettable night of fashion comes to a close- an evening tailored by fabric and personalization. This year’s theme ofSuperfine: Tailoring Black Style” honors the lineage of Black style crafted with precision and worn with confidence. From the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art may next year be just as boldly worn and beautifully executed as this one.
