United Airlines has announced new flights from Orlando International Airport, adding service to Houston and Chicago in response to shifting airline competition in the region.

According to airline officials, the decision comes as Spirit Airlines undergoes financial challenges following its recent bankruptcy filing. Spirit also revealed plans to scale back operations in select markets, raising concerns about reduced flight availability for travelers in Orlando and beyond.

United executives noted that the additional flights are intended to provide passengers with more travel options and help offset potential gaps in service. “We want to ensure travelers continue to have reliable access to major hubs, especially during a time when some carriers are reducing capacity,” United representatives said.

Spirit Airlines’ restructuring has prompted questions about how its reduced presence will affect one of Florida’s busiest airports. Industry analysts say Orlando is a competitive market where multiple carriers aim to maintain or grow their share of passenger traffic.

With these added flights, United strengthens its connections from Orlando to two of its key hubs, giving travelers more direct options for both business and leisure travel.
