The Winter Garden Heritage Foundation is inviting the community to a special event honoring the legacy of camping and scouting in West Orange County. The event will take place on Thursday, August 7, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Heller Hall, located at 21 E. Plant Street in downtown Winter Garden.

Titled “Trailblazers: A Journey through West Orange County’s Camping and Scouting,” the exhibit highlights decades of local outdoor adventures and the impact of scouting programs on generations of youth. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore the exhibit, which showcases historical artifacts, photographs, and stories from both past and present.

A highlight of the evening will be a special presentation by Dr. John Cappleman, a well-known local figure and former Scoutmaster. Dr. Cappleman will share engaging personal stories from his time in scouting, offering a firsthand look into the community’s outdoor traditions.

The event will also feature light bites and refreshments, as well as the chance to connect with neighbors and community members.

As part of the celebration, organizers are hosting a Back-to-School Drive to benefit local children in need. Guests are encouraged to bring a school supply item to donate. Each donation includes entry into a raffle for a chance to win a dinner for two (valued up to $50) at a popular downtown Winter Garden restaurant.

The “Trailblazers” exhibit and event are made possible through the support of Giant Recreation World and Stage Stop Campground.
