This summer, Theatre at St. Luke’s invites Central Florida audiences to experience the magic, mystery, and emotional depth of Big Fish, the acclaimed musical inspired by Daniel Wallace’s novel and the Tim Burton film of the same name. The production runs from July 31 through August 10 at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Orlando.
Blending Southern charm with fantasy, Big Fish follows the life of Edward Bloom, a charismatic traveling salesman whose larger-than-life stories—from witches and giants to circus adventures—have enchanted everyone around him, except his skeptical son, Will. As Will prepares to become a father, he sets out to unravel the truth behind his father’s tall tales, ultimately discovering a deeper meaning in the stories he once dismissed.
“This show is not just a fantastical tale of giants, witches, and daffodils…but is a deeply human story about parents and children, the power of storytelling, and the legacies we leave behind. We are not just telling this story, we are living it,” director Steve MacKinnon said.
The production features a talented local cast, vibrant choreography, and a moving score by Andrew Lippa, delivering a theatrical experience that is visually stunning, emotionally rich, and suitable for all ages. From dazzling musical numbers to moments of heartfelt reflection, Big Fish explores what it means to live a life full of passion, purpose, and imagination.
