The World Health Organization estimates that approximately 57 million people worldwide are currently living with dementia, a condition that significantly impacts not only those diagnosed but also their families and caregivers. In response to the growing need for support, Senior Resource Alliance (SRA) has partnered with Healthspan Partners of Southwest Florida to launch a new program designed to assist Central Floridians affected by dementia.
The initiative, known as GUIDE, offers a comprehensive and free support system tailored to meet the evolving needs of individuals with dementia and their caregivers. Services include individualized care plans, access to community-based resources, support groups, respite care, and caregiver workshops.
“Dementia can be both physically and emotionally draining for everyone involved,” Karla Radka, President & CEO of SRA said in a press release. “With close to 10 million new cases every year, it’s more important than ever to give patients and their families a support system that
they can depend on.”
GUIDE participants are paired with a Care Navigator who helps connect them to essential services such as food programs, transportation assistance, and wellness resources. Caregivers benefit from access to a 24/7 call line, stress and time management workshops, and a broad network of peer support.
To qualify for the GUIDE program, individuals must meet the following criteria:
Have a dementia diagnosis
Be a traditional Medicare beneficiary (excluding Medicare Advantage and hospice)
Reside outside of long-term nursing facilities
“No one should face dementia alone,” Dr. Adam Perry, Founder of Healthspan
Partners of SWFL said. “Each person and family affected by dementia has a unique
experience. As the central hub of the local senior services network, Senior Resource
Alliance is expertly equipped to guide clients and caregivers with personalized support.”
The GUIDE program builds on an existing eight-year initiative funded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, which has provided nationwide support to individuals and families affected by dementia.
