Central Florida Public Media is hosting a one-day donation drive on Friday, July 25, in response to recent budget cuts, leaving 100% of their funding to community support.

The teams at 90.7 WMFE in Orlando and 89.5 WMFV in The Villages will be on air from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, sharing information and resources to “preserve and protect Central Florida Public Media’s trustworthy, independent journalism.”

This means a loss of about $300,000 a year for at least two years, starting October 2025.  Central Florida Public Media budgeted for those funds as they were approved for in previous budgets, as they wrote on their site.

“We are more committed than ever to our mission to provide Central Florida with trustworthy, independent journalism that empowers and connects our community. We are doing all we can to preserve it,” Central Florida Public Media’s site reads. “However, these cuts will force us to suspend our Emerging Journalists Fellowship program and cut some national programming. We will share the details of our new on-air schedule soon. The budgeting process for FY 2026 is currently underway, and further cuts may be necessary depending on our community’s response to these unfortunate developments.”

Listeners can tune into either station for further information on supporting the cause or can also donate here.
