In a sweeping initiative that marks the largest single health care investment in Central Florida’s history, AdventHealth Orlando has announced a multi-billion-dollar transformation of its campus. Designed to address the region’s growing demand for advanced medical services, the project includes the construction of a 14-story patient and surgical tower, expanded clinical services, and significant investments in medical education and workforce development.

With the Orlando metro area gaining approximately 1,500 new residents each week, AdventHealth aims to ensure the region’s health care infrastructure keeps pace with population growth. The expansion is not only a commitment to current residents but a strategic investment in the region’s long-term health outcomes and economic vitality.

“This project is paving the way for our Orlando campus to become America’s epicenter for surgical advancement, breakthrough treatments, pioneering research and medical education – all centered on our whole-person health philosophy,” Rob Deininger, CEO of AdventHealth Orlando said.

A Comprehensive Investment in Health Care Excellence

The more than $1 billion investment covers a wide range of initiatives:

  • New Patient and Surgical Tower: The planned 14-story tower, slated to open in 2030, will house 24 operating rooms, endoscopy and imaging services, and 440 inpatient beds. This facility is poised to become a national model for surgical care and innovation.

  • Advanced Medical Technologies: The expansion includes cutting-edge technologies such as robot-assisted kidney transplantation at Central Florida’s only Transplant Institute. Other initiatives include the Genomics Risk Assessment for Cancer and Early Detection (GRACE) program, which uses AI, family, and medical history to assess cancer risks, and the Little Miracles Unit, offering specialized care for infants born as early as 22 weeks.

  • Medical Education and Training: AdventHealth Orlando currently operates 24 accredited residency and fellowship programs, with 358 physicians in training. By 2029, that number is expected to grow to 33 programs and 467 trainees, ensuring a robust pipeline of skilled professionals in the region.

  • AdventHealth University Expansion: Located on the Orlando campus, the university is undergoing significant growth, including the development of a new simulation center and aggressive enrollment goals. Student numbers are projected to increase from 2,000 in 2025 to 3,000 by 2030.

A Legacy of Care, a Future of Innovation

AdventHealth Orlando has come a long way since its founding in 1908 as a small facility on Lake Estelle. Today, the 172-acre campus employs nearly 10,000 people and encompasses specialty hospitals, academic institutions, residences, and a range of community-focused services. As the flagship of the AdventHealth network — which spans nine states with 55 hospitals and over 2,000 care sites — the Orlando campus plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of health care both locally and nationally.

“We are setting the national standard for advanced medicine,” Britney Benitez, Chief Nursing Officer at AdventHealth Orlando said. “We’re not only Central Florida’s leading health system and most trusted by our neighbors, we’re a medical destination for people across the world.”

Community Impact and Support

Local leaders have also praised the initiative for its anticipated positive impact on the community.

“Collaboration and innovation are the hallmarks of a successful community, and Central Florida would not be where it is today without AdventHealth,” Robert Stuart, Orlando City Commissioner said. “Our city’s future is bright, and I’m confident these new investments will propel us to the future.”

Project Partners and Timeline

The architectural design is led by HuntonBrady, with Brasfield & Gorrie serving as general contractor. The transformation will roll out in multiple phases, with additional updates expected in the coming months as development progresses.

A Medical Destination for the Future

AdventHealth’s forward-looking investment reinforces its role as a trusted health care provider and innovation hub, underscoring a bold vision for a healthier, more resilient Central Florida.
