In preparation for hurricane season this year, Seniors First is distributing 160 power stations to their Meals on Wheels clients in Orange County.

“It’s important to us that our senior clients are prepared.” Seniors First President and CEO Marsha Lorenz said in a press release. “These portable power stations are more than just a safety measure, they’re a lifeline. By putting critical resources directly into the hands of our seniors, we’re ensuring they can stay connected, safe, and self-reliant during a hurricane.”

Through funding from Heart of Florida United Way, the nonprofit was able to provide Anker portable power stations, each offering 300 running watts which has the capability to power devices, radios and portable fans during a power outage.

“With nearly half of Central Florida households already struggling to make ends meet, a significant storm can put them into a financial tailspin,” Jeff Hayward, President & CEO, Heart of Florida United Way said. “We are proud to partner with Seniors First. As a community, we are supporting ALICE – or Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed – families to bring them comfort and relief.”

Along with delivering the power stations, Seniors First also seeks to assist its clients during hurricane season with nutrition programs that offer shelf-stable food to sustain someone for three to five days without power, as well as checklists for seniors to prepare them for storms.
