Runway to Hope is a Winter Park organization built to address the non-medical realities of pediatric cancer helping families manage the financial and logistical strain that comes with treatment.
Founded in 2010 by Mark NeJanme and Josie NeJame, the organization was built around a gap they saw firsthand. Medical care may be covered or supported, but the day-to-day costs like rent, groceries, gas, and missed work add up quickly. That’s where Runway to Hope steps in.
Through its Family Wellness Program, the nonprofit provides direct financial assistance to families across Central Florida. The goal is straightforward: reduce stress where possible so parents can focus on their child’s treatment. The organization also works with providers like AdventHealth for Children and Nemours Children’s Hospital to support programs and expand access to care.
It is not a national brand trying to scale everywhere. The focus is intentionally local.
Beyond Financial Help
Another defining feature of Runway to Hop’s impact is its lineup of signature events. These events raise critical funds and create memorable experiences for families.
One of the most anticipated events each year is the Bloomingdale’s Bash Weekend happening on April 11–12. During the weekend, children battling or recovering from pediatric cancer are invited to take part in a personalized shopping experience at Bloomingdale’s. They select outfits to model for the organization’s Spring Soirée fashion show on May 16.
At this event, children are given a day to focus entirely on themselves. It transforms a typically stressful period into one filled with excitement, confidence, and joy. The Bash Weekend also brings together volunteers, sponsors, and community members who work to create a welcoming environment.
As mentioned before, the experience continues at the Spring Soirée, where participating children take to the runway in the outfits they selected. They are met with applause and encouragement from families and friends.
Growing Impact in a Growing Region
As Central Florida continues to grow, so does the demand for organizations that provide critical support services. Runway to Hope has steadily expanded its reach, forming partnerships with hospitals, donors, and corporate sponsors to ensure it can meet the needs of more families each year.
Through financial assistance, community engagement, and transformative events, the organization has become a staple in the region’s fight against pediatric cancer.
At its core, Runway to Hope is about more than funding; it’s about creating moments that matter. Whether it’s helping a family stay afloat during treatment or giving a child the chance to shine on a runway.
