Event Details

Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs will present “When Art Speaks: A Note to Self” by Verlese Pender in the Orange County Multicultural Center Art Gallery. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.

Verlese Pender is a PhD candidate in Human Services, specializing in Mental Health, with nearly two decades of professional experience in children’s mental health, behavioral health, and youth engagement.

“As an artist and mother of two, my journey into creative wellness began personally, discovering how art offered clarity, healing, and resilience during life’s most challenging moments,” said Pender. “That personal connection to the healing power of art ultimately shaped my professional path, leading me to develop When Art Speaks — a trauma-informed, healing-centered creative wellness program that helps youth, professionals, and communities use art as a tool for emotional expression, self-awareness, and personal growth.”

“When I create, I’m telling a piece of my story. My process is deeply intuitive and emotional, allowing me to express what I often can’t put into words. The creation process reveals who we are and opens doors to who we can become. My hope is that when people see my work, they don’t just look, they feel. Because in my world, art speaks louder than words.”

Restaurant Week menus will be offered in addition to each restaurant’s regular menu.

As a Mount Dora Area Chamber initiative, Restaurant Week is open to Chamber member restaurants throughout the area. In addition to Mount Dora dining destinations, the promotion may include participating restaurants in nearby communities such as Tavares and Eustis, giving diners a chance to experience more of the local food scene across the Chamber’s broader business community.

The launch comes as Mount Dora continues to earn national recognition for its dining scene, including a recent No. 3 ranking in USA TODAY 10Best’s 2026 Readers’ Choice Awards for Best Small Town Food Scene.

“Mount Dora’s dining scene has always been something special, and national recognition like the recent USA TODAY 10Best ranking shows that more people are taking notice,” said Rachel O’Ryan, President of the Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce. “Summer can be a slower season for restaurants, and Restaurant Week gives residents and visitors a reason to get out, try something new, and support the local businesses that help define our community.”
