Event Details
Orange County Arts & Cultural Affairs will present “When Art Speaks: A Note to Self” by Verlese Pender in the Orange County Multicultural Center Art Gallery. An opening reception will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Verlese Pender is a PhD candidate in Human Services, specializing in Mental Health, with nearly two decades of professional experience in children’s mental health, behavioral health, and youth engagement.
“As an artist and mother of two, my journey into creative wellness began personally, discovering how art offered clarity, healing, and resilience during life’s most challenging moments,” said Pender. “That personal connection to the healing power of art ultimately shaped my professional path, leading me to develop When Art Speaks — a trauma-informed, healing-centered creative wellness program that helps youth, professionals, and communities use art as a tool for emotional expression, self-awareness, and personal growth.”
“When I create, I’m telling a piece of my story. My process is deeply intuitive and emotional, allowing me to express what I often can’t put into words. The creation process reveals who we are and opens doors to who we can become. My hope is that when people see my work, they don’t just look, they feel. Because in my world, art speaks louder than words.”

MOUNT DORA, Fla. — The Mount Dora Area Chamber of Commerce is launching the first-ever Mount Dora Area Restaurant Week, a new summer dining promotion designed to showcase local restaurants and encourage residents and visitors to explore the area’s dining scene.
The event will take place Saturday, July 25 through Sunday, August 2. Celebrate America’s 250th anniversary with a patriotic projection experience at Luminary Green Park in downtown Orlando! Running nightly through Labor Day on September 7, the park’s projection show has transformed into a red, white, and blue celebration of the nation’s semiquincentennial.
The free outdoor experience begins at sunset each evening and runs through 10 p.m., making it a perfect addition to a nighttime stroll through Creative Village. While the patriotic projection show traditionally only takes place during the week of July 4, this year’s extended run gives residents and visitors more opportunities to enjoy the immersive display all summer long.
Bring your family, meet up with friends, or simply stop by to take in the visuals. No tickets or reservations are required – just show up and enjoy this free community experience at Luminary Green Park.
