Tropical Storm Dolly 2026 formed Thursday, Aug. 27, before weakening into an open tropical wave Friday, Aug. 28, as the system moved west toward the Caribbean. Here’s what to know about the Tropical Storm Dolly path, timeline and potential impact on Florida.

Dolly became the fourth named storm of the 2026 Atlantic hurricane season.

  • Aug. 27: Tropical Storm Dolly formed over the Atlantic.
  • Aug. 28: Dolly weakened into an open tropical wave.
  • Aug. 29: The system is expected to approach the Leeward Islands.
  • Aug. 30: Rainfall could affect the Leeward Islands, Virgin Islands, and Puerto Rico.
  • Aug. 31: The remnants could continue toward Hispaniola and other parts of the Caribbean.

The system is no longer classified as a tropical storm, but forecasters are monitoring the remnants for rainfall and possible flooding across parts of the Caribbean.

Tropical Storm Dolly Path

The current Dolly storm path takes the system west toward the Caribbean rather than toward the Florida peninsula.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring the system as it approaches the Leeward Islands, where heavy rainfall could develop over the weekend. Rain could then spread toward Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Hispaniola.

At this time, Tropical Storm Dolly will not pose a significant threat to Florida.

There are no Florida watches or warnings associated with the system. Central Florida residents do not currently need to make preparations specifically for Dolly.

Why Is the Storm Named Dolly?

The timing of Tropical Storm Dolly’s formation has attracted attention because country music legend Dolly Parton died Aug. 25.

The storm’s name is unrelated to Parton’s death. Hurricane names are selected in advance through predetermined lists maintained by the World Meteorological Organization. Dolly was already included on the 2026 Atlantic hurricane names list.
