Orlando International Airport Nears Completion on Major Terminal C Expansion

Travelers flying through Orlando International Airport (MCO) will soon see the next phase of one of the airport’s biggest infrastructure projects come to life as the Terminal C expansion enters its final stretch. 

According to the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, the expansion is expected to open in Spring 2026, completing a key portion of the airport’s long term vision to accommodate Central Florida’s rapid growth and record-breaking passenger numbers.

The Terminal C expansion will add four new Multiple Aircraft Ramp System (MARS) gates Gates 250 through 253. The new gates can accommodate either four wide-body international aircraft or up to eight narrow-body domestic aircraft, giving airlines more flexibility to meet changing travel demand. 

Originally planned as part of Terminal C’s first phase, airport officials had to reevaluate spending after COVID-19. Construction resumed after Orlando International Airport secured $49 million in federal funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. 

In addition to the new gates, the project includes expanded aircraft ramps, taxiway improvements, and remote aircraft to support increased airline operations. Airport officials are also constructing a new Terminal C Rental Car Lobby, expanding pedestrian connections between Terminal C and the adjacent train station, and rolling out a multi-phase concessions program that will add more than 40 new restaurants, shops, and passenger amenities over the next several years. 

Orlando International Airport welcomed nearly 58 million passengers in 2025, making it one of the busiest airports in the country. Airport officials estimate the completed Terminal C Phase 1 expansion will provide capacity for an additional 10 to 12 million passengers annually, helping reduce congestion while supporting future domestic and international growth. 

As Orlando continues to attract millions of visitors each year and more residents can call Central Florida home, the expansion ensures MCO can keep pace with demand while maintaining the modern, efficient travel experience Terminal C has become known for. 

With construction nearly complete, travelers won’t have to wait much longer to experience the next chapter of Orlando International Airport’s evolution.
