Allegiant Air is trimming its route network this summer, eliminating 61 routes across the United States. Of these, dozens are connected to Florida airports, according to a new analysis of the airline’s July 2026 schedule.
The cuts represent one of the airline’s largest recent network shakeups and affect flights that operated as recently as last summer but will no longer be available next month. Florida airports account for a significant share of the reductions, underscoring how the state’s leisure travel market remains in flux as airlines adjust schedules to match demand.
A separate review earlier this month found that 34 Florida routes had already been removed from Allegiant’s schedule compared to previous years. The latest nationwide analysis shows the scope of the restructuring is even larger, with 61 routes disappearing across the carrier’s network.
Florida Airports Among Those Most Affected
The route reductions involve service connected to several Florida airports that have long been central to Allegiant’s business model, including Orlando Sanford International Airport, St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport, Punta Gorda Airport, and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
Allegiant specializes in linking smaller cities with vacation destinations through nonstop flights, making Florida one of its most important markets. When routes are cut, travelers often lose their only nonstop option between two cities.
Why Is Allegiant Cutting Routes?
The airline has not characterized the changes as a broader pullback from Florida. Instead, the route eliminations appear to be part of an ongoing effort to optimize aircraft utilization and focus on markets generating stronger demand.
Route adjustments are common among ultra-low carriers, which frequently add and remove destinations based on seasonal travel patterns, profitability, and booking trends. Industry observers note that Allegiant’s network strategy differs from major airlines because it relies heavily on point-to-point leisure travel rather than hub-and-spoke connections.
New Florida Flights Still Being Added
Even as it cuts routes, Allegiant continues to expand in Florida.
In May, the airline announced eight new nonstop routes, several of which will serve Florida airports. New service includes flights connecting Fort Lauderdale, Orlando Sanford, Punta Gorda, and St. Pete-Clearwater with destinations in the Northeast and Midwest.
The expansion suggests Allegiant is shifting capacity rather than reducing its overall commitment to Florida, which remains one of the airline’s largest leisure markets.
With the removal of these 61 flights, passengers planning future trips should verify that previously available routes are still operating before booking. Travelers impacted by route cancellations may need to fly from a different airport, connect through another city, or choose another carrier.
