In a recent update, Disney has confirmed that Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will officially close in 2026. The iconic attraction is set to undergo a complete transformation into a brand-new coaster themed to The Muppets, marking the first time the beloved characters will headline a Disney ride.
The upcoming reimagining will feature Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem—the Muppets’ signature rock band—as the central stars of a high-energy music festival experience. Promotional artwork released during the original announcement showcases familiar faces such as Dr. Teeth, Animal, Janice, Floyd Pepper, Zoot, and Lips. Joining them will be fan favorites Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy, with hints that other Muppets could appear in the pre-show or throughout the ride.
Disney has not yet provided an exact date for the closure, but it has stated that the current version of the coaster will remain operational through 2025. The reimagined Muppets attraction is expected to debut before the end of 2026.
In addition to the ride overhaul, the adjacent Rock Around the Shop retail location will also be rethemed to align with the new Muppets concept. Further details regarding the updated storyline, ride elements, or musical features have not been disclosed at this time.
This news coincides with the scheduled final performance of MuppetVision 3D, which officially closes on June 7, 2025. The attraction’s retirement paves the way for a broader reimagining of the park, which includes the creation of a new Monsters, Inc. land. The upcoming expansion is set to feature a suspended coaster inspired by the movie’s iconic door vault sequence, as well as a brand-new theater experience.
In a recent social media statement, Disney announced: “The Muppets are packing up and moving to Sunset Blvd for their first ever coaster,” confirming the characters’ shift from their former home in the park. The company also noted that discussions are underway to preserve aspects of the Muppets’ cinematic legacy within the reimagined experiences.
Fans of Aerosmith still have time to enjoy the high-speed thrills of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster through next year. Disney encourages guests to take their final ride in the famous super-stretch limo before the attraction begins its next chapter.
