TikTok Reportedly Preparing New U.S. App Ahead of Potential Sale

TikTok is reportedly developing a new version of its app specifically for U.S. users, according to a recent report from The Information. The move comes as the company prepares for a potential sale to a group of American investors amid ongoing political and regulatory scrutiny.

The updated version of the app is expected to launch on September 5, with the current version scheduled to stop functioning in the U.S. by March of next year, the report said. However, the timeline is subject to change. If the rollout proceeds as planned, U.S. users would need to download the new app to continue accessing the short-form video platform.

This development follows recent remarks by former President Donald Trump, who stated earlier this week that discussions with China over TikTok’s future were set to begin, suggesting the U.S. government is close to finalizing an agreement regarding the platform’s ownership.

Last month, Trump extended a previously issued deadline to sell or restructure TikTok’s U.S. operations to September 17, marking the third such delay in the ongoing process.

TikTok has faced regulatory challenges in the United States due to national security concerns over its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. The proposed sale aims to address those concerns by shifting U.S. operations into the hands of domestic stakeholders.

As the situation continues to evolve, TikTok’s future in the U.S. remains uncertain, with regulatory, legal, and technical developments likely in the coming months.
