Instagram is expanding its music-sharing capabilities by introducing a new feature that allows users to listen to Spotify song previews directly within Stories. The update, announced Monday, marks a significant enhancement for music discovery and user engagement on the platform.
Previously, Instagram users could share Spotify tracks to their Stories, but viewers had to leave the app and visit Spotify to hear the song. With this update, a snippet of the song will now automatically play in-app when users share a track to their Story, streamlining the listening experience and eliminating the need to switch platforms.
The feature aims to make music sharing more dynamic and immersive, encouraging users to explore and connect over songs without interrupting their Instagram activity. It also follows a similar recent rollout to Instagram Notes, where users can now stream and showcase their favorite tracks directly from Spotify within the feature.
By deepening its integration with Spotify, Instagram appears to be positioning itself as a stronger player in the social music discovery space—an area currently led by TikTok, which has been instrumental in driving viral music trends and influencing global charts.
In addition to the Spotify update, Instagram announced it will introduce new fonts for Stories and Reels throughout the year. The first in the series is a limited-edition font inspired by the handwriting of international music artist Rosalía. This custom font includes unique, hand-drawn symbols that appear when users type specific characters such as “:-)”, “***”, and “<3.”
These updates underscore Instagram’s ongoing efforts to enrich creative expression and retain user attention through personalized and engaging content tools.
Both features are rolling out gradually and are expected to be widely available soon.
