As families gear up for the new academic year, the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) is helping ease the transition with a significant donation aimed at supporting students and encouraging summertime fun. In a collaborative effort involving more than 80 volunteers, OUC assembled and distributed nearly 1,000 backpacks filled with school supplies for students enrolled in Florida Virtual School (FLVS).
The backpack initiative was part of a larger community outreach event held on June 28, where OUC employees, their families, and FLVS staff worked together to pack the educational materials. The backpacks are designed to help students start the school year prepared and confident, particularly those learning in virtual settings.
In addition to the school supplies, OUC also distributed approximately 1,000 summer fun kits to neighborhood centers across Orlando and St. Cloud throughout July. These seasonal kits included items such as sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, and sunscreen, encouraging outdoor play and healthy activity during the summer break.
The donation is part of OUC’s ongoing commitment to community engagement and support. By providing both academic and recreational supplies, the utility aims to assist local families in managing the costs of back-to-school preparation while also promoting a safe and enjoyable summer.
This initiative reflects OUC’s broader mission to serve as more than just a utility provider by actively contributing to the well-being of the communities it serves.
