During the rise of blogging in 2013, Eryn Vargo said her team wanted to create a platform to give Central Florida moms a voice and foster connections in the community.
Creating a group of local mom bloggers writing about everything relating to local businesses and parenting recommendations, what is now known as the Orlando Mom Collective, has continued to grow into a staple for the Central Florida community.
“For moms and families, we are a resource that provides so much for living in Central Florida and includes tons of events and opportunities for community building,” Vargo, owner of the Orlando Mom Collective, said. “For businesses, we are a unique approach to media to meet a very specific target market, plus we have our networking program. It is a win-win for all involved.”
Vargo has been with the Orlando Mom Collective since its start in 2013, having roles in writing and sales. She purchased the company four years ago in 2021 and has “catapulted” herself into the world of media, as she said, this was her launch into owning and operating a media business.
Over the years, the Orlando Mom Collective has grown into a “full-fledged media company,” hosting community events, offering advertising and marketing services to businesses, sharing local resources, all while giving moms an outlet to share their voice.
“While we love content creation, it is the relationships we get to build and the awesome community of women and businesses that has created the best memories for us,” Vargo said. “We love getting to be a part of the Central Florida community in so many different ways.”
Vargo said one of their favorite pieces of content they work on is their monthly segment on WESH 2 with Meredith McDonough, where Vargo shares their upcoming events and truths of motherhood.
In growing their media business even more, she said they are looking forward to launching a podcast and building their Women in Business program, which offers a platform for networking, skill development, and idea generation for female entrepreneurs. She said she hopes to make the program a key resource for all women in business.
“We are so much more than content creators, and I think that is what makes what we do so valuable and unique,” Vargo said. “There is nothing quite like what we offer here in Central Florida, and there is a lot of value to that.”
As Vargo reflects on the early days of building this blogging platform, to where the business has come, she said she sees this as a community of moms first.
“We knew from the beginning that it was something special,” Vargo said. “The community-building and connection part of the business is the core. The media part is secondary.”
