Give Kids The World, the nonprofit “storybook” resort dedicated to bringing joy and memories to children with critical illnesses and their families, celebrates its 40th anniversary with a year-long series of special events designed to honor four decades of kindness and hope.
Founded in 1986 by hotelier Henri Landwirth, Give Kids The World has grown from humble beginnings into an internationally recognized nonprofit that has welcomed more than 200,000 families from all 50 U.S. states and 77 countries. The organization provides weeklong, cost-free vacations focused on fun and family togetherness, ensuring that medical struggles are set aside for celebration, play, and lasting memories.
“Give Kids The World is a place where kindness lives,” said President and CEO Caroline Schumacher. “Henri’s love and legacy continue to inspire us every day, and this year we’re inviting everyone — from past wish families to longtime volunteers and partners to join us in celebrating 40 years of light and joy.”
A Year of Events
To mark the milestone anniversary, Give Kids The World has planned an array of events and experiences throughout 2026:
Founders Day Celebration: Beginning the anniversary year, past wish families, volunteers, and supporters will gather to honor Landwirth’s legacy and the nonprofit’s origins.
Original Short Feature: What Henri Gave The World: An original film project is set to debut, telling the deeply personal story of the organization’s founder and the profound impact of his vision. The film was created in collaboration with Landwirth’s family and creative storytellers to highlight his extraordinary journey and motivations.
“Hope and Humanity: The Core Exhibit”: From March through May, this immersive experience explores themes of resilience and compassion through the lens of Landwirth’s life and the broader human experience.
Golf and Gala Weekend: Returning May 8–9 at The Four Seasons Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort, this signature fundraising event celebrates four decades of success while supporting the nonprofit.
Gingerbread Run 5K: Set for Dec. 5, this community run welcomes participants of all levels and supports Give Kids The World’s ongoing efforts.
Additional programs and anniversary elements will be announced as the year unfolds, with opportunities for partners, volunteers, and wish alumni to engage in meaningful ways.
Give Kids The World operates an 89-acre village in Central Florida where families stay free of charge during their customized weeklong trips. In addition to welcoming families, the nonprofit works with thousands of volunteers and corporate partners who help make every visit magical, from meals and entertainment to transportation and theme park admission.
Celebrating this 40-year milestone, the organization hopes not only to reflect on its rich history but also to grow its impact and continue creating joyful experiences for future generations of children facing critical health challenges.
