Over 4,500 runners, joggers, walkers, and costume wearers will be making their way to Lake Eola Park for Seniors First’s 36th annual Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving morning, November 27.

This race has become the largest Turkey Trot 5K in Central Florida and not only allows locals to burn a few calories to have a guilt-free Thanksgiving meal, but it also serves as a fundraiser for programs such as Meals on Wheels, which provides older adults with the necessary nutrition to live healthy, independent lives.

“Over the past 36 years, the Turkey Trot has become a tradition for many here in Orlando,” Marsha Lorenz, president and CEO of Seniors First, said in a press release. “When the community gathers at Lake Eola on Thanksgiving morning, they’re not just running; they’re participating in a ‘Race to End Senior Hunger’ and every step they take brings us closer to that goal.”

In 2024, Seniors First was able to serve over 450,000 nutritious meals to about 1,800 older adults through their Neighborhood Lunch and Meals on Wheels programs. This year, the nonprofit is expanding its reach with its new initiative, Garden Patch Delivery, which will bring fresh produce to its Meals on Wheels clients, allowing them to further improve seniors’ quality of life.

Along with raising funds to benefit Central Florida’s elders, the trot will include activities such as a costume contest and a turkey call contest. Entry to the Turkey Trot ranges from $40-$50 until race day.
