This Monday, September 29, coffee drinkers across the country will raise their mugs in celebration of National Coffee Day. This holiday honors the drink that fuels many American’s mornings, workdays, and late nights. With an estimated 400 million cups consumed daily in the U.S., coffee isn’t just a beverage; it’s a ritual, and for some, a necessity.

Why It Matters

  • Coffee Nation: The average American coffee drinker enjoys about three cups a day, according to the National Coffee Association.

  • Morning Ritual: Roughly two-thirds of Americans include coffee as part of their breakfast routine.

  • Global Leader: The U.S. is the largest coffee consumer in the world, fueling a $100 billion industry.

This year, the celebration is getting competitive. The64.com, an interactive voting platform known for its bracket-style showdowns, has launched America’s Best Coffee, a nationwide tournament designed to answer one burning question: Who really brews the best?

From September 25 through October 12, 64 standout coffee shops from across the country including favorites in Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, Honolulu, Boise, and San Francisco will face off in a six-round bracket. Fans  will vote online, narrowing the field from 64 shops down to one champion. Unlike traditional “Best Of” lists, this tournament is completely community-driven meaning there are no paid placements nor editorial bias, just fan power.

How It Works:

  • Sign up for free at www.The64.com
  • Vote in each round as the bracket narrows from 64 → 32 → 16 → 8 → 4 → 2 → Champion.
  • Earn chips: Every vote earns you a chip. Use chips to spin The64 Prize Wheel and win prizes.
  • The tournament runs for 18 days, with new rounds every 3 days.

For contestants, the tournament offers more than a shot of publicity. By engaging with fans in this digital competition, coffee shops can expand their reach, build community, and gain national attention in a unique, interactive way.

“Coffee is something people are passionate about, and passion is what fuels The64,” said Claudine Grant, a spokesperson for the platform. “We wanted to create a fun, transparent competition that puts the decision directly in the hands of coffee lovers.”

Whether you’re loyal to a local roaster or always chasing the next great pour-over, National Coffee Day now comes with a new kind of buzz. To cast your vote, check out the bracket.

This National Coffee Day, the competition isn’t just about what’s in your cup — it’s about who’s filling it best.
